  1. Lake Superior OperationDecember 12, 2011edittedApril 05, 2012reports on Superior Optimization work(Optimized nat64d) MH SP Prepared by M. Asadzadeh & B. Tolson SC ER

  2. Purpose • Report Nat64D optimization problem and results • Report finalized problem settings that are available and archived • Report final results of Nat64D optimization

  3. Nat64D: Optimized for Historical NBS Including Shore Protection • This plan is designed in EC and its 6 parameters are optimized: • Optimized for HI • Benefit Includes Shore Protection (SP) + Navigation + Hydropower Generation • Simulated 6 extreme NBS to make sure CGLRRM does not crash • Solved single objective optimization problem: • Objective: Maximize benefit • Constraints: (note that pre-emption is enabled) 1- Respect the 6 criteria for historical NBS (no need to run excel) 2- Do not crash on 6 extreme scenarios • Other SVM criteria NOT explicitly included in the optimization formulation

  4. Nat64D: Optimization decision variables & ranges • The optimization used the following boundaries on the decision variables of Nat64D: • [-1, 1], [-5, 5], [-0.5, 0.5], [1, 17], [0, 1], [182.7, 183.2] • The optimized Nat64D is not significantly improved over the un-optimized Nat64D. • Note that an expanded set of DV ranges shown below led to significantly better optimization result • [-0.3, 1], [-5, 5], [-0.5, 0.5], [1, 17], [-0.3, 0.3], [181.5, 183.5] • However, these DV ranges are not consistent with Dr. Yin Fan’s logic defining nat64d …

  5. Nat 64D Optimized nat64d optimized nat64d un-optimized • Note: • the optimized nat64d can simulate the 6 extreme NBS scenarios successfully • Full SVM evaluation of this optimized solution is not generated by Tolson et al.
