  1. HectoSpec Redshift Survey for SWIRE/FLS MIR Sources Jiasheng Huang CfA Christopher Willmer Steward Observatory, UoA X. Xia(TNU), R. Yan(Toronto), H. Yan(OSU), L. Yan(IPAC)

  2. Hectospec Multi-Fiber Spectrograph on MMT • 300 Fibers • 1 deg^2 FoV • Moderate-resolution: 6A and 3A • Wavelength coverage : 3500-10000A @ 6A • On 6.5m MMT • Sensitivity: 1.5-2 hour exposure for objects with R~22.5

  3. Hectospec

  4. Hectospec

  5. Hectospec on MMT

  6. Why do we do redshift survey for IR selected sources?

  7. 50% of total energy is at far-IR 1) High z galaxies 2) Cold dusty galaxies Dole et al. 2005

  8. Wide-Field REDSHIFT Surveys • 2DFGRS (B<19.45) • SDSS (R<17.77) • No wide-field redshift survey specifically for IR sources • Are SDSS and 2DFGRS deeper enough for IR sources?

  9. R-F24 for galaxies in the Lockman Hole region(~10 deg^2) SDSS

  10. Will measure spectra for 20000 IR-selected sources (F24>0.4 mJy) in EN1, EN2, Lockman, FLS, and XMM-LSS( ~ 30 deg^2) Will yield 5000 LIRGs 400 ULIRGs at z<1. 900 IR-selected QSO at 1<z<3 Spectra for the coming Herschel sources Redshift Survey in the SWIRE and FLS Regions

  11. Status • Field Area (d^2) complete #spec EN1 9.2 0 EN2 4.8 0 Lockman 11.1 63% 4000 XMM 9.1 ~20%(VVDS) ?? FLS 4.4 80% 2000

  12. Spectrum: easy one first

  13. Tough one

  14. QSO

  15. BALQSO

  16. Another BALQSO

  17. K+A?Balmer Absorption lines are common in 24 mu sources

  18. The conclusion will come after we finish our survey! Thank You!
