Character Foil NOTES. A secondary character whose situation, actions, or traits contrast those of a primary character, and thus by contrast, sets off or foils the major character. Most often (but not always), the foil character makes the main character look better by comparison.

Character Foil NOTES • A secondary character whose situation, actions, or traits contrast those of a primary character, and thus by contrast, sets off or foils the major character. • Most often (but not always), the foil character makes the main character look better by comparison. • Sometimes, foil characters may share a few similar traits, but overall, they are usually opposites.
