US versus Singapore Singapore US US has their own statutory requirements Additional assistance in US NAEYC Early Intervention starts from Infant & Toddler APGAR Scale Newborn blood test screening Developmental screening test • Singapore does not have the statutory requirements • Only VWO • No additional assistance in Singapore schools. • but only one person per school • Parents do not take initiative to seek help for their children • Low level of awareness in Singapore

  3. US versus Singapore Singapore US Head start Different progammes Individual with Disabilities Education Act Hospital based Centre based Home based • Modified from US. • Healthy Start (SG) • Only Centre based programmes in Singapore.

  4. Conclusion • There is still a long way for Singapore to progress as we have to overcome the traditional and cultural barriers
