Background • Trans* and Transgender are umbrella terms • when one’s gender identity does not match their sex assigned at birth • This is a population at extreme risk of bullying, harassment, assault, rejection • Self Harm • Drug / alcohol abuse • Homelessness • Safe and Welcoming school climate is critical

  3. AB 1266 • School Success and Opportunity Act • Affirms students’ rights to: • access facilities • participate in programs & activities …on the basis of their gender identity • Effective Jan 1, 2014
