    9. 9 Change vTools Committee from Ad Hoc to Standing Committee Supports MGA Priority #6 Operational Efficiency vTools Ad Hoc is 3+ years old Annual budget of ~$100K Successfully delivering products valued by members Goal today – obtain Approval in Principle Would allow immediate operational change Will follow up in June Board Series with formal documentation changes Charter Strategy Organization Structure Operations Manual updates

    10. 10 Proposed Organizational change Motion approved by MGA Board on 2/13/10… Resolve that the vTools ad hoc committee be elevated to a permanent MGA Committee reporting to the MGA Board through the MGA Vice Chair – Information Management.   Appropriate revisions to the MGA Operations Manual will be presented to the MGA Board at an upcoming meeting.

    13. 13 Driving Forces on Project Prioritization… From Ibrahim Gedeon, CTO TELUS and SC08 keynote speaker, loyal IEEE member TELUS – 22% of Canadian Telecommunications market “What IEEE is publishing is of no interest to us” “IEEE is very late in reporting on new and exciting developments in our technology” “This is stuff for professors and graduate students, not for working professionals in telecommunications” Only 4 of 800 TELUS employees reporting to Mr. Gedeon accepted a free IEEE membership offer!

    14. 14 Increase IEEE relevance by… Providing solutions that are meaningful to industry practitioners In a timely manner To those ends, the following project is proposed…

    15. 15 IEEE Practitioners’ Body of Knowledge Project Purpose and Description Academia needs are well satisfied with literature publishing opportunities within IEEE. In order to increase IEEE relevance to industry members and attract industry non-members, it is proposed to develop a Practitioner’s Body of Knowledge (BOK) in EACH of the technical disciplines within IEEE. Suggested project steps: Develop multi-phased plan Develop infrastructure Develop operational guidelines Develop BOK template Develop metrics on use & usefulness 2010 Deliverables Implement Phase 1 – begin capturing practitioners’ knowledge
