National Seminar on Developing A Program for the Implementationof the2008 SNA and Supporting Statistics in Turkey 10 September 2013 / Ankara - Turkey Current Situation in National Accounts Estimates Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) estimates GDP figures by production and expenditure approaches quarterly in current and constant prices. The base year for estimates is 1998. GDP by income approach was last published in 2006 in current prices. The revision process is still ongoing and the revised figures will be published within this year.

This achievement is the result of a major undertaking that is referred to, in statistical terms, as an historical revision. This historical revision, which represents the accumulation of several years of intense efforts, involved restating the accounts according to new statistical standards, incorporating a broad range of new and better source data and adopting updated statistical techniques.

In the middle of this year, the survey for supply and use tables for 2012 was started. It will be finished in the beginning of 2014. The tables will be constructed in the third quarter of next year.

With the New Turkish Statistical Law some provisions concerning the organizational structure of the Institute are introduced and principles regarding the Official Statistics are set out. In accordance with the Law, preparation of a Multi-Annual Official Statistical Programme, implementation principles and authorities of the Programme are determined.

National Seminar on Developing A Program for the Implementationof the2008 SNA and Supporting Statistics in Turkey 10 September 2013 / Ankara - Turkey Current Situation in TurkStat With the New Turkish Statistical Law, the Statistics Council is established to advice on the development and implementation of the Programme and on the production and use of official statistics; to determine and assess the areas in which official statistics are needed and to provide opinions and suggestions for future works to be carried out.

National Seminar on Developing A Program for the Implementationof the2008 SNA and Supporting Statistics in Turkey 10 September 2013 / Ankara - Turkey Current Situation in TurkStat And, with the New Turkish Statistical Law, the basic principles and standards concerning the production and organization of Official Statistics Program (OSP) were established. OSP specifies duties and authorities which are to collect, assess and disseminate all kinds of statistics relating to the economic, social, and cultural activities of the country, and to ensure coordination among other institutions and organizations.
