  5. Where we are today March 2013

  6. Setup The V1 comes configured as an access point out of the box. Once you’ve inserted the power and HDMI cables, it shows download instructions for the app on your TV. You can get to Google Play by either typing in the URL or scanning the QR code. Once downloaded and started, the app immediately scans for a Wi-Fi access point that has a name that follows a specific algorithm and thus the app can present the device as an un-configured video player. The app then takes note of which ID the home network has, disconnects from it and instead connects to the V1. When connected, the app hands over the name of your home network and you are asked to enter the Wi-Fi password. Now the app can disconnect from the temporary network and connect to the home network while the V1 does the same and the two devices are now set to talk to each other on the home network. A video can be created to auto-play, with a welcome message, usage instructions or a demonstration of the connected home.

  7. Unlimited Users & Devices When you use the phone app to select and play media on your TV, the V1 requests the stream directly from the network, not via your phone as it does in competing products. This means that even if you’ve started playing media on your TV with one phone, you can use another one to control it, or a third. It also means that there’s no limitation as to how many TVs you can choose to play back media on, as long as they have a V1 connected to them, they can receive commands from any phone on your home network. The same applies to the L1 and music – it is plug & play with stereo equipment, registering on your home network and working in the same way.

  8. Your App – With Full Touch UX The app is YOUR media app. We work with you to build a service portfolio and feature roadmap that fits your product plans. So, there is no standard app – as our designers and developers make the app for your solutions. The Home app is easy to use and very intuitive – important drivers for interaction. The app supports gestures for navigating quickly among target devices, content selection and remote control. Swiping to the right reveals the content selection menu, even if you’ve drilled down a couple of steps in the hierarchy. If anything is playing, swiping to the left takes you to the remote so that you can quickly control your media playback.

  9. TV The app is integrated with your back end systems where customer registration is automated. When users have a TV subscription package already – their content is available immediately. However, if it’s the first time they enter the TV menu they are asked to select from channel packages – here they can buy and register one. Subscriptions can be added to the phone bill, without any need for signing or registering, as the billing security is then approved by the SIM card. The channels are presented in a straightforward EPG (electronic program guide) that shows current and upcoming programs. The TV section can be expanded / combined with other features in this overview. For example social integration, actor card data, social sync and so on.

  10. Video on Demand The pre-integrated Video on Demand service lets users rent movies with a simple tap, access a content catalogue if they have a subscription or you can offer them a promotional trial period. Any film purchases are put on the users phone bill and this is all validated by the SIM card authorization process. We can also integrate a separate payment or authorization system – another billing system, SMS pin code, online via credit card etc. There’s full DRM support so content providers are happy, and we have support for multiple DRM systems. The VoD service can be updated with other features such as search, recommendations, shows their friends have seen or professional review sites that rated a ‘must see’ film.

  11. Photos Any photos in the gallery of your smartphone or tablet can be viewed, selected and shown on the TV screen – ideal when a family wants to show their holiday pictures. Any pictures stored on the home network, for example on the Excito B3 home server, that support photo albums can also be selected. Online locations can also be searched and used - if integrated into the app – such as Flickr.

  12. Videos Like photo’s – users own created and stored videos can be selected on their smartphones or tablets and played back on a home TV with a wide range of format support. And, the users collection of digital videos can be selected and shown on any of the networked TV’s. If users have stored them on a Home Media device – such as the Excito B3. Online cloud storage locations can also be supported.

  13. Streaming Integration We can add other TV, Video or music services to the menu screen – as long as there is an open API or we can get an API from the provider. As an example; SVT Play is by far the most successful catch-up TV service in Sweden. We’ve integrated a webview that slides in when it’s chosen from the list. When users select one of the programs, the request is intercepted by the app who then forwards the stream to the V1 – and it plays it back in great HD quality. SVT Play is also broadcasting all their channels live over the internet, completely OTT. We can also manage API integration and partnership with global OTT video providers such as Netflix, LOVEFilm, HBO and so on.

  14. YouTube Integration With over 800 million visitors per month YouTube is the number one destination for online video. And because consumers continue to view more and more online video hours - we have pre-built YouTube into the home screen. YouTube is integrated on an API level with full support for search, lists, detailed clip metadata, recommendations etc. Users simply search and select the video, and play on any of the connected TV’s or stereo’s. But as it’s your app – if you’d prefer another local video site, or another useful service instead – we’ll integrate with that.

  15. Streaming Music A music streaming service can easily be integrated to the home app. We can help these services overcome the biggest frustrations users have today. We can validate users that have access to the service, mange content on phones, and help bring the sound into their home stereo. We can also manage integration and partnerships with global music providers such as Deezer and Spotify, or local services. We can add additional features such as track search, a recommendations algorithm and Facebook social features - where users post tracks they played with comments - or create playlists they want to share.

  16. Music - With L1 Playback music tracks stored on the phone or tablet directly to existing stereo’s. Excito L1 connects to existing stereo equipment and allows users to wirelessly manage and playback digital music - users simply click on the track, choose the connected stereo they want and listen to the music.
