  3. Chemical Properties • Highly Toxic • Reacts Easily With Water • Unstable • Combines with every element except the noble gases • Very strong oxidizing agent(gives up or takes on electrons from another substance)

  6. Effectiveness Of Chlorine • Chlorine is used to disinfect pools and hot tubs. It succeeds in disinfecting pools and hot tubs that mostly every pool has chlorine in it to keep from algae growing. • Chlorine is also used in bleach to bleach clothes, bleach paper, used in paints and medicines. Also commonly found in pesticides,etc. • The main purpose of chlorine is to kill bacteria from drinking water supplies. • Used in “mustard gas” during the World Wars to kill the enemy

Negative Effects Of Chlorine • Highly toxic to humans depending on the amount of chlorine • Extremely toxic if inhaled/swallowed • Strong suffocating odour • Can ruin clothing if spilt on • Can damage skin and hair • Harmful to the environment/animal habitats(organisms living in water or soil)
