  2. FAST FACTS There are four parts of a hydro-electric power plant. Dams hold back water, making a reservoir. The water intakes gates on the dam to let water build pressure. Transformer converts currents from generator into useable voltage. Transmission lines conducts electricity from voltage plants for distribution.

  3. HOW OUR ENERGY WORKS Basically there is a dam that is built to trap water, usually in a valley where there is an existing lake. Dams are thicker at the bottom than at the top, this is so it can stay upright when water is pushed against it.

  4. ADVANTAGES ADVANTAGES When the electricity is generated, no greenhouse gases are made. The water used is free. The water is a renewable energy source. When the electricity is generated , no greenhouse gases are created. The water used is free. It is a renewable energy source.

  5. DISADVANTAGES Dams are expensive to build. By building a Dam a nearby area is flooded, and floods can cause harm for wildlife, plants, and humans. If it does not rain much there will not be enough water to spin the turbines.

  6. IS IT GOOD OR BAD FOR THE ENVIROMENT? It is good because it is water (which is renewable) and water doesn’t cause any pollution, and the water doesn’t cause any harm.

  7. RENEWABLE/NON-RENEWABLE. It is renewable because its water and you can re-use water as many times as you want.

  8. WOULD IT BE POSSIBLE TO USE YOUR ENERGY IN PITTSBURGH? Yes, because there are many rivers in Pittsburgh and rivers are a water source.

  9. HOW DOES THE FUTURE LOOK FOR YOUR TYPE OF ENERGY? Plentiful because water covers 2/3 of the earth.
