SSI: Student Success Initiative5th grade students must pass the STAAR reading and math test to be promoted to 6th grade.
Students have three opportunities to pass the STAAR reading test and three opportunities to pass the STAAR math test (two during the spring and one during the summer).
If a student does not pass one or both tests, the school must give the student the additional instruction after each testing opportunity, and the student must participate in that instruction.
After the 3rd testing opportunity, a student who is unsuccessful on the STAAR reading or math test will be retained automatically.
Make Up Work Students shall be permitted to make up assignments and tests following any absence. All students will receive credit for satisfactory makeup work after an absence, including excused and unexcused absences and absences due to suspension from school. For students at the elementary level, the district shall not impose a grade penalty for makeup work after an unexcused absence. (See District Policy EIAB Local Days
Late Percent of Grade Received by Student Example:
1Day – 20 points deducted)
2 Days – 40 points deducted
3 Days – 60 points deducted

A student will be given as many days as he/she was absent to make up tests and other missed assignments. If a student does not complete the work assigned after the allotted number of days has passed, the actual grade of zero will be recorded in the grade book.
Teachers are required to provide assignments prior to an absence, when requested by the student or parent. Please note: scheduled absences require principal approval with two weeks advanced notice.
