  1. Life Science Review By: Natalie Fletcher

  2. Water & carbon dioxide-oxygen cycles 1.

  3. 2.Condensation happens when water evaporates and builds up in the atmosphere in the form of a cloud Condensation does not only happen in the clouds. I know this because any stream can really condense. 3. If we had too many plants, then we would have too much oxygen in the air If we had too many animals or pollution, then we would had too much carbon dioxide in the air

  4. Inherited traits vs. learned behaviors 4.Inherited Traits-instincts; behaviors you have when you were born. Ex: eye color, skin color, hair color, ear lobe, eye sight Learned Behaviors-acquired; ways of behaving (actions that are learned from others or form changes in the environment); observing others or by being taught. Ex: walking, running, crawling, talking, reading, writing

  5. Food web & food chains 5. Producer-an organism that serves as a source of food for other organisms Ex- flowers, trees Consumer- organism that gets energy by eating other organisms Ex- lions, snakes Decomposers- decomposers use dead plants and animals and non-living organic compounds as their food source Ex-worms, bacteria Herbivores-an animal that mainly eats or only eats plants Ex-deer's, rabbits

  6. Omnivores-an animal that eats both plants and meat Ex-bears, raccoons Scavengers- an animal that eats decaying plants and animals such as meat or rotting plant material Ex-vultures, hyenas Niche- a niche is the role an organism plays in its community Ex- plant’s job is to make oxygen, red squirrel’s job is to store nuts so they can eventually make more trees 6.Herbivore teeth- flat, not sharp, made for eating plants and grass Carnivore teeth- sharp, made for eating meat\ other animals They could not change their diet because herbivores wouldn’t be able to eat meat with their flat teeth

  7. #1: sun, seaweed, seal, polar bear. Seaweed- pro. Seal- con., prey Polar bear- con., pred., #2:sun, grass, rabbit, hawk, vulture Grass-pro. Rabbit-con. ,prey Hawk- con., prod. Vulture- con., scav. 8. 1.If the root died, the plant wouldn’t grow and the whole food chain would fall apart 2.If the stem died, the plant wouldn’t be supported and wouldn’t get the nutrients it needs 3. If the leaves died, the plant wouldn’t be able to make food or go through photosynthesis 4. If the flower died, the plant wouldn’t be able to reproduce seeds

  8. Metamorphosis 9. • Complete • Egg • Larva (doesn’t look like adult) • Pupa • Adult • Incomplete • Egg • Nymth ( does look like adult) • adult • Egg • Adult • stages

  9. Plants 10. Seeds- Flower-produce seeds (adult) Leaf-make food/photosynthesis Stem-supports the plant/carries the nutrients Root-soak up water and nutrients/holds up plant 11.No because some plants have different climates that they are used to than other plants like a cactus is used to the dry climate in the desert and a plant in the rainforest is used to the climate in the rainforest, if they switched they wouldn’t be able to survive because of the climate they are made for. 12.Seeds travel by… 1.Wind 2.Water 3.animals

  10. 13. Plant in an ecosystem could decrease if… 1.If the number of decomposers decreased 2. The number of herbivores increase 3.Humans cut down the plants to make buildings 4.A big fire happened

  11. Ecosystems 14. Meerkat –live in the harsh land of the Kalahari in Southern Africa • Hunt in mobs and one of them stands guard to look out for predators • Live in complex underground tunnel systems which they use for protection against predators • They are immune to venom of scorpions. This allows them to eat them. They also eat insects, small rodents, and lizards. 15. A cactus adapts by having special physical characteristics. Some of these characteristics are leaves that are reduced to spines to reduce water loss, thick stems to store water, and roots that grow deep in the ground to absorb more water for the stem A cactus’ niche is to provide food for desert animals

  12. 16.Decidous forest biome… Plants-go through 4 seasons Animals-deer, squirrel, Amount of sunlight-lots of sunlight Spacing- not too crowded, not super spaced 17.Tundra biome…organisms that live there and their adaptions to survive: Arctic Fox- makes its home in small burrows in frost-free ground. Follows polar bear so it can eat what the polar bear left. Arctic Moss- grows on the bottom of tundra lake beds and in and around bogs and fens. Have tiny leaves and tiny rootlets
