Transgender and gender non-binary (TGNB) people, individuals whose gender identity or expression are different from the sex they are born with are members of a diverse population that have unique healthcare needs.<br><br>Increased resources and the availability of gender re-assignment surgical centres is attracting the transgender population to undergo gender confirming surgeries. Serious psychological distress and suicide attempts have been reported at approximately 40% which is almost 9 times the national suicide rate in the general US population. According to a study published by the American Journal of Psychiatry, gender reassignment surgery can lower the risks of anxiety, depression and suicidal tendencies among the transgender population along with mental health benefits. However, the road to transgender in the UK has recently become much more difficult for those under the age of 16.<br>
