The Principles • JAGs initiated in line with the common framework for strengthening partnerships in support to CAADP. • The CAADP Joint Action Group on Regional Trade and Infrastructure (JAG-RTI) was established under the leadership of AUC and NPCA, and the RECs to: • Contribute to achieving the regional integration agenda • Support the advancement of the AU Action Plan on Boosting intra-African Trade • Promoting dialogues and policy reforms that increase investment in agriculture trade and related infrastructure development. • Support concrete projects related to Regional Trade and Infrastructure through backstopping, international advocacy, cross-regional lesson sharing. Lessons Learnt –JAGs RTI • Still momentum to advance the implementation of JAGs with interest in RTI. • JAG RTI contributes to regional integration agenda by supporting formulation/implementation of regional compacts and profiling trade & agriculture at continental and global levels • RECs considers JAGs as instrument for achieving the integration agenda but need to strengthen their engagement in define the agenda. • Need for private sector (Domestic and Foreign) engagement • Opportunity for Global Institutions in trade development to engage in CAADP implementation CAADP

Next Steps –JAGs RTI • Advocacy and expert support to RECs in driving the JAG, setting the agenda • Take into account comments and finalize JAG Action Plan • AUC and NPCA to facilitate some inter- regional learning • AUC/NPCA to facilitate a 2day strategy working session to be convened by RECs to articulate “regional agenda’’ and priorities within the CAADP context’ • Engage the private sector • Develop clear outcome indicators to monitor actions within the Partnership Paper and Results Framework. • Support preparations for the 2014 AU Events on sustaining the CAADP Momentum (profiling regional agenda) • Engage DPs to extend support to JAG related activities with resources from the MDTF and beyond.
