  1. From Triggers to Cross-Sections • Review Hand Scan Results • Efficiency correction • A hunch and a proposal • Another proposal R. Soltz, MIPP Mtg.

  2. Hand Scan Results (Andrew’s #s) • Run 13627 summary : Eff/Pur. (x 0.7 for SciHi) • iDC : 51/45 (31)% SciHi : 45/60 (42)% • iDC & SciLo : 49/54 (38%) iDC || SciHi : 56/39 (27)% • iDC & SciLo yields small gain in purity (nix it) • iDC (alone) and SciHi are comparable ~50/50 triggers • iDC || SciHi has small Eff. gain but big hit in Purity • Sci in beam knocks 30% from purity (x 0.7) factor • Inabililty to identify SciHi vertex may be problematic • iDC Eff. drops to 40% for Run 13240 (bad beam) • Run dep. efficiency may be problematic • SciHi drop explained by threshold change R. Soltz, MIPP Mtg.

  3. From Trigger Efficiency to Cross-Section • d3/dp3 = (Nint)trig/Nbeamd3Nint/dp3 1/trig • trig=(Nint)trig/(N int_from_beam) can depend on mult., mom., run cond. • Sample efficiency from E910 (Xihong Yang Thesis) • Expect SciHi Eff. correction to be similar • iDC Eff. may be more complicated to calculate R. Soltz, MIPP Mtg.

  4. Current Efficiencies • Hand Scan Efficiencies • We need a better handle on these • needs full track reconstruction R. Soltz, MIPP Mtg.

  5. A Hunch & and Trigger Proposal • My hunch is that the SciHi trigger efficiency will be significantly easier to calculate and yield a lower systematic error on the cross-section • However... • Need to show that SciHi vertex can be easily identified • Need to understand iDC data taken so far • Efficiency corrections should be attempted for both • Proposal • Run iDC || SciHi for now • Remove SciHi if vertex not identifiable • Remove iDC if efficiency correction proves difficult • Move on to Physics Analysis! R. Soltz, MIPP Mtg.

  6. A second proposal • We (desperately) need to move on to physics analysis • Get full track reconstruction into shape • Start first analysis pass by end of April • Request volunteers for analysis pass leader and local production managers • More discussion this Thurs. R. Soltz, MIPP Mtg.

  7. E910 Vertex Reconstruction R. Soltz, MIPP Mtg.
