  1. GOAL 1: To be an effective and inclusive Council. • Ensuring that meetings are planned and purposeful by: • Distributing relevant information prior to meetings. • Providing an annual meeting schedule. • Developing ways of gathering community input.

  2. GOAL 1: To be an effective and inclusive Council. • Completing a final draft strategic plan by March 2008 and reviewing this plan annually by: • Having the ‘strategic plan’ as a standing agenda item for council meetings.

GOAL 1: To be an effective and inclusive Council. • Ensuring that all people on council are respected and included, on an ongoing basis by: • Providing supports for Self Advocates as requested. • Having council members use plain language. • Following Roberts Rules of Order at Council meetings.

  4. GOAL 1: To be an effective and inclusive Council. • Ensuring regional and community representation on council by: • Recruiting aboriginal representation on council. • Planning succession for future council vacancies.

  5. GOAL 1: To be an effective and inclusive Council. • Providing constructive feedback and input to CLBC Managers by: • Distributing relevant information prior to meetings. • Having Council request specific information from CLBC as required.

GOAL 1: To be an effective and inclusive Council. • Celebrating our accomplishments by: • Incorporating accomplishments into annual general meeting. • Developing accountability processes with CLBC Managers by: • Requesting clarification from CLBC regarding the work of other Councils throughout the Province.

GOAL 2: To support self advocates. • Working with self advocates and their families on an ongoing basis by: • Continuing to solicit input from self advocate groups. • Providing financial support to self advocate Council members to travel to different communities to provide training and workshops to other groups.

GOAL 2: To support self advocates. • Advocating for self advocates to realize their dreams and expand their opportunities by: • Continuing to explore affordable housing options for self advocates. • Advocating for increased funding for CLBC whenever possible. • Continuing community committee work.

  9. GOAL 2: To support self advocates. • Supporting self advocates to network in Thompson Cariboo communities by: • Encouraging regional self advocacy events. • Providing financial support to self advocates for travel. • Assisting with organization of events.

GOAL 3:To develop processes for effective communication with CLBC and other community councils. • Broadening our knowledge base of community councils by: • Holding bi-annual meetings of council chairs. • Posting details regarding initiatives undertaken by different councils on CLBC (local) website.

GOAL 3:To develop processes for effective communication with CLBC and other community councils. • Developing a communication plan for distribution of information to community members, CLBC and other community councils by: • Using press releases/media to announce upcoming events. • Providing a “From the Council” newsletter.

  13. GOAL 3:To develop processes for effective communication with CLBC and other community councils. • Providing input to CLBC issues as they arise by: • Including these issues into the accountability process.

  14. GOAL 4:To identify and respond to local issues. • Supporting and leading initiatives aimed at increasing the number of affordable housing units for people with disabilities by: • Continuing community committee work. • Seeking support of community members who have expertise in this area.

  15. GOAL 4:To identify and respond to local issues. • Supporting and leading initiatives aimed at improving transitions by: • Continuing community committee work. • Identifying and working with existing community transition teams.

  16. GOAL 4:To identify and respond to local issues. • Giving input and feedback on standards relating to ‘crisis response’ by: • Requesting ongoing information from the Quality Assurance Manager. • Continuing community committee work.
