  3. Class of 2012 Graduation Ceremony Etiquette & Rules1. GRADUATION REHERSAL: A rehearsal will be held in the Socorro High School PIT on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 promptly at 8:00AMThis rehearsal is MANDATORY! Students need to make the necessary arrangements to be here. 2. GRADUATION: Commencement Ceremony will be held at the UTEP Don Haskins Center o Friday, June 1, 2012 at 3:00PM3. SENIOR REPORTING TIME: Seniors are to report to the UTEP Don Haskins Center promptly at 2:00PM on Friday, June 1, 2012 on the second floor above the tunnel inside the Don Haskins Center. Parents and guest are not allowed to wait in the designated area for graduates. A final roll will be taken at 2:30PM.

  5. ANY SENIOR NOT PRESENT IN TIME FOR THE ROLL CALL WILL HAVE THEIR DIPLOMA REMOVED FROM STAGE. Parents are advised to arrive early as seats are not reserved. 4. PROCESSIONAL: The processional (march into the Don Haskins Center) will begin promptly at 3:00PM. Once the march-line has been set candidates for graduation can not leave the line for any reason. Once at the designated seat you are not to leave your seat.   All tassels must be worn on the right side throughout the graduation ceremony. 5. RECEIVING THE DIPLOMA: Graduates will accept the diploma with their left hand and shake hands with their right hand. The tassel is not to be switched to the other side at this time. After all diplomas have been distributed and all graduates have returned to their seats Mr. Serrano will be instructing them to shift their tassel to the left side of their cap. 6. CAP TOSS: Mr. Serrano will notify the students to toss their caps once the graduates have all returned to their seats. 7. Recessional: The Class Song will play as the students exit. Rows are dismissed one at a time to form a procession that flows evenly out each side of the Band which will be on the North side sections YZ and AB. You can meet your parents outside in the parking lot area.

WHAT TO WEAR: Please remember that this is to be a dignified ceremony; therefore, any graduate not dressed properly risks being barred from participating in the ceremony. • NO DECORATED CAPS & GOWNS • NO jewelry is to be worn outside of gown • NO big earrings or hand rings • NO Purses • NO CELL PHONES, OR ELECTRONIC DEVICES, THIS INCLUDES CAMERAS • NO corsages LADIES • SHOES-No thin high heels, No sandals, flip-flops or athletic shoes. Wear dressy shoes • OUTFIT-Dress, dress pants, skirts, dressy blouses. (Try to avoid long skirts as they hamper the ascent onto the stairs, No jeans or shorts • HAIR-Bring bobby pins to secure caps • JEWELRY-Modest amount is best GENTELMEN • SHOES-closed-toed, loafers or oxford style dress shoe (No sandals, flip-flops or athletic shoes) • OUTFIT-Slacks, shirts and tie.

  8. 10. PHOTOGRAPHS AND VIDEOTAPING: A photographer from Glamour Shots will photograph each student as diploma is received. 11. No Chewing gum 12. WHAT NOT TO BRING: • Beach ball, silly string, confetti, foam, horns, etc… A search will occur when students are in line. Teachers at all end rows will facilitate compliance. • Drugs. This is a drug free zone. Any student suspected of being under the influence of drug or alcohol will be barred from participating in the graduation ceremony. Searches will be conducted. 13. LOST DIPLOMAS: Replacement diplomas will not be provided.

  9. DIRECTIONS TO DON HASKINS CENTER From East • Take I-10 west into El Paso. Take the Schuster/Sun Bowl exit (exit 18a). Continue straight through one stop light and the round-a-bout passing the Sun Bowl Stadium to a three-way stop. Parking will be available in the lots to your right, or in additional northern lots ahead. From West • Take I-10 east into El Paso. Take Schuster/Sun Bowl exit (exit 18a) and turn left on Sun Bowl Drive. Follow Sun Bowl north across campus and past Sun Bowl Stadium to a three-way stop. Parking will be available in the lots to your right, or in additional northern lots ahead.

  10. In order to avoid congestion, refrain from driving to the Don Haskins by way of Mesa, Glory Road and Oregon Street. Plan to arrive early to allow time to park and walk to the Don Haskins Center. • Please leave strollers and carriages in your car. Doors will open one hour prior to the start of the Commencement Ceremony. • Glory Road Transfer Center & Parking Garage $10 for event parking. Assessable from Glory Road only • General Parking (Free): Lots R-2, P-8, and P-9 (accessible from Sun Bowl Dr.) • Disable Parking: R-3 • General Parking, Faculty and working Commencement Staff: Lot R-3 and R-4 • VIP and Media Parking Lot R-1 (VIP Parking Permit will be required) • Please do not park in any reserved parking areas.

  11. Need Transportation • Busses will be available to families and friends needing transportation. • Pick will be on Friday, June 1, 2012 at 1:00PM in front the vocational building here at SHS
