Jeb Bush Former Governor of Florida • Critical Thinking • Communication • Collaboration • Creativity Digital learning opens the door for students beyond the four walls of the classroom and provides opportunities for:

  3. Goal • The districtwide plan to issue a laptop to every freshman at Socorro High School will create transformational, digital age instruction and increase student achievement. The initiative will move us closer to our district Strategic Direction One: Safe and Supportive Learning Environment and Strategic Direction Two: College and Career Readiness. • A digital device in the hands of our students will engage them in highly interactive learning. Used alongside district curriculum with appropriate technology tools and resources, the laptops will allow teachers to create individualized instruction that is student--‐centered. Students will become the producers and evaluators of knowledge, not just consumers.

Laptop Care • Walk with lid closed, never open • Keep laptop away from food and drinks • Do not leave laptop unattended, especially in a car (not even in the trunk, it can overheat! • Bring charged laptop to school daily and bring the charger every day! • Remember you will have the same laptop for 4 years.

  6. Child Safety • During school hours, students use the Internet only for education and research purposes • Teachers monitor student Internet use in class • Students are NOT allowed “free time” to search the Internet • Students receive training on use of laptop and Internet safety

Child Safety • NEVER give out personal information • NEVER use parent’s credit card without permission • NEVER share passwords with anyone (other than your parents) • NEVER arrange a face-to-face meeting with someone you met online • DO NOT OPEN an email if you do not know who sent it • DO NOT CLICK on banner ads or pop up ads on websites • NEVER USE bad language or send threatening email

Prohibited Actions The following actions are prohibited: • Bypassing the filter • Using another student’s username or password • Sharing passwords (other than with parents) • Downloading or installing software that has not been approved • Tampering with hardware • Using chat rooms, IM, social networking; hosting non-school-approved web pages • Accessing inappropriate material that is unacceptable in a school setting

Pebble Hills High School 2016-2017 Entering Freshmen and Sophomores Is there any cost to parents? $25 yearly maintenance & usage fee (every year for 4 years) If the device is not working, or needs updates who will do that? A work order will be submitted to the technicians to fix and/or update the computer. Will training be provided for students who are not familiar with the technology? DNA Summer Camp – Tuesday, May 31 & Wednesday, June 1, 2016 (all day) Are the devices sturdy enough for student use? Ruggedized laptop
