  2. Polidoro Da Carravaggio (1499 – 1543) Worked under Raphael before making a name for himself during mannerist period. Known mostly for his extraordinary paintings on the sides of Roman houses that have since almost completely vanished. He of course had to flee Rome after the Sack of Rome (1527) so he collected his life savings to flee. He was then assassinated by his workmen who agreed to divide up the money. The authorities linked his assistant to the crime who was tortured into confession and quartered.
