    3. Interpreting Services Today Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) utilizes multiple contractors for interpreting services VR pays administrative fee for the scheduling of interpreters, plus mileage and travel rates, in addition to direct interpreting services Single contract for statewide Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) In 2008, VR authorized $1.5 million for direct interpreting services $600,000 for administrative fees $900,000 travel and mileage Admin + travel = $1.5 million which is same cost as direct interpreting services

    4. Goal for Interpreting Services Seamless, statewide communication access for individuals who are deaf/hard of hearing Improved efficiency Bulk of funding supports direct interpreting Expansion of availability and utilization of Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) Substantial reduction in administrative costs

Moving toward the goal Extend current interpreting contracts and VRI contract through 12/31/2009 Conduct Request for Information (RFI) to gain input from providers that will assist BRS in developing Request for Service (RFS) Questions regarding RFI due by 3pm 3/20/09; Questions should be directed to IDOA RFI due by 3pm 3/31/09 RFS to be released this spring

Interpreting services 2010 Contract for a single coordinating unit that will network with interpreting providers statewide This unit will coordinate and schedule all interpreting and communication services, including VRI services, statewide Again, the goal is improved efficiency, focus on client services, and expansion of VRI

    8.
