  5. Using data for school improvement • What are our data sources? • Who collects it? • When is it collected? • How do we interpret it? (be wary of small cohorts and put it in context) • How is it shared? • What do teachers need to know? • Should we change anything?

  8. DASA • Accessing Data Analysis Skills Assessment : Log into the portal and choose DASA from the My Applications tab

  9. DASA • Read the PowerPoint before starting • Phase reports at a school level are provided on request by EMSAD email to: emsad.surveys@det.nsw.edu.au

  10. SMART eLearning • eLearning is available to all government schools at: https://emsadsupport.nsw.edu.au • Log in using the instructions on the home page (use SMART NAPLAN 2009 teacher password).

  11. SMART data templates are available from EMSAD and will be distributed via regions for Primary schools Secondary schools

SMART2 • Replaces the current SMART with all existing, and additional, functionality • accessed through the DET portal • will track student progress through the stages of NAPLAN testing • Has been released to schools in August 2010, with 2008 and 2009 data • The addition of a ‘summary page’ for every school, which allows for a quick summary of the areas of improvement plus how the school is tracking against the pre-determined standards • The addition of extra static reports, plus the improvement of existing reports

  13. Student Registration Number: • Has been applied to all students participating in the 2008-2010 NAPLAN • will allow the tracking of students between test sessions • will enable a school to access their students’ NAPLAN reports from Year 3 to Year 9 • will enable students to be tracked across sectors.

  14. Virtual Grades, • Primary schools will have access to their students’ Year 7 results as a virtual grade • Virtual grades also be available to Infant Schools and Behaviour Schools • Only school principals will have access to the virtual grade results
