  3. Our History of Compromise • We have reset our programs repeatedly based upon “best technical solution” • Multibanding • Multibanding w/ OFDM • Various companies have given up development in Spectral Keying, and high rate sampling

  4. Options / Issues • Dual PHY • Maximizes market fragmentation • Does not provide benefit to customers • Complicates situation in USB/WiMedia/1394 • Complicates situation into regulatory bodies • Hybridization • Delays market • Resets silicon investments

  5. Issues With CSM Proposal • Communication is likely to be reduced to the least common denominator • It encourages fragmentation • It forces more intense use of channels, complicating the SOP situation in dense areas • It preserves DS development at the expense of other companies

  6. The Weighted Effects of Change • The number of companies who must change is asymmetric • Assuming a change, who takes the hit • OFDM silicon providers • Approximately 16 (TI, ST, Philips, Intel, Infineon, Wisair, Staccato, Alereon, etc) • DS silicon providers • Approximately 1 (Freescale) ?

  7. Conclusions • Compromise is challenging at this stage of the game. • Any path has severe market effects • It is necessary to coordinate with all OFDM authors and supporters • We hope to present a proposal in Nov.
