  2. What are Genital Warts? Genital warts are soft, small growths on the genital or anal area caused by HPV (Human Papillomavirus), usually types 6 and 11. They spread through sexual contact and may appear as single or clustered bumps. They are usually painless but can cause itching or discomfort.

  3. Causes of Genital Warts Caused by Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Spread through: Vaginal, anal, or oral sex Skin-to-skin contact with an infected area Can be passed even when warts are not visible Affects both men and women Can also spread from mother to baby during childbirth (rare)

  4. Risk Factors Having multiple sexual partners Unprotected sex (no condom use) Weakened immune system (e.g., HIV) Smoking Early sexual activity Having a partner with a history of STIs

  5. Signs & Symptoms of Genital Warts Small, flesh-colored or gray bumps May appear single or in clusters (like cauliflower) Found on genitals, anus, or nearby areas May cause itching, burning, or discomfort Bleeding during sex (in some cases) Often painless and may go unnoticed

  6. Prevention of Genital Warts HPV vaccination (e.g., Gardasil) – best before sexual activity begins Use condoms – reduces risk, but not 100% effective Limit number of sexual partners Avoid sexual contact with someone who has visible warts Regular health checkups and STI screening
