  1. Tips for Maintaining a Heat and Air Conditioning Unit If you maintain a regular cleaning and maintenance schedule, your HVAC will serve you for decades. However, not everyone knows how to keep heat and air conditioning units well maintained. If you belong in the latter group and you are not sure of what to do, below are some easy steps to help you keep your system well maintained. 1.Changing the filters is essential If you do not remember the last time that you had your unit’s filters changed, then it is high time that you changed them. If the system has disposable filters, then you are in luck since replacing them ensures that you have the system clean all the time. To be on the safe side, ensure to change them after every one to three months. 2.Keep the area around the system clean Often, ensure that you are visually checking the entire area around the outdoor section of the HVAC unit. If the area has overgrown plants, leaves, or soil around it, it might stop properly functioning. If possible, keep the area as clear as possible and with no traces of overgrown vegetation and leaves. 3.Regularly clean the condensing units It is also essential that you keep the unit’s condensing unit clean all the time. If yours is the type that has an outdoor condensing unit (or a heat pump that sits outside and has a fan on top), then you need to clean it often. Cleaning the unit will ensure that the metal fins that usually get clogged with pollen, dirt, and grime are clean. 4.Check the unit’s drain pan and evaporator coil’s drainpipe It is also advisable to check your HVAC unit’s drain pan and drainpipe on the evaporator coil for any blockages. Usually, algae and mold will accumulate up there and prevent the pan and

  2. drainpipe from functioning, as they should. If you are unsure of where to look, in this case, ask your technician for directions the next time they visit for future references. 5.Ask for professional assistance For a homeowner, it might be a bit hard for you to know what to check on your heating, air, ventilation, and cooling unit. If you are unsure of what to look for, clean, or replace, ask your technicians for help. They can help with directions or the actualwork if you are not up to it.
