  2. What it is • Prohibition is the act of making things like cigarettes and beer illegal and not manufacturing it at all. The down side of this is that people make and sell them illegally, making every thing upside down.

  3. The beginning • In the begging the legislators of the Oregon territory regulated the sale of liquor by making a licensing act in1849. • 1855, Washington territory legislators tried to outlaw the manufacturing and sale of liquor, it was quickly defeated though. • 1879, prohibition of the sale of liquor within a mile of the Northern Pacific Railroad.

  4. The 18th amendment • The 18th amendment was passed on December 18th, 1917 and it prohibited the manufacturing, transportation, and sale of alcoholic beverages, but allowed people to drink wine they made themselves at home. • 1933, the 21st amendment was passed, repealing the 18th amendment.

  5. Other facts • Illegal trafficking was nicknamed “Boot-legging” • 18th amendment nicknamed the “Blue laws.” • It lasted 78 years • Refrigerator cars created • Made crime rates go up
