  2. Affect vs. Effect • So, affect and effect can be used as nouns or verbs – what’s a person to do? Luckily, “affect” is almost always used as a verb and “effect” is more commonly used as a noun.

  3. Affect • Affect is almost always used as a verb. • It means "to influence" something: • The damp and rainy day affected Harry's mood. • Psychologists sometimes use affect as a noun to describe someone's mood or emotional state, but this is very rare.
