  4. Background Information 1. Camel Camel is one of the world-famous cigarette brands, which used to come out number one in sales. The slogan for this brand is "To err is human. To smoke Camel cigarettes, divine."

  5. Background Information 2. Prince Albert Prince Albert (1819–1861) was the husband of Queen Victoria of Great Britain. This is also the name of a kind of British tobacco.

  6. Background Information 3. Queen Victoria Queen Victoria (1819–1901) was queen of Great Britain and Ireland (1837–1901) and empress of India. Her rule was the longest in English history.

  7. Background Information 4. Hollywood is the center of the U.S. movie industry. In terms of geography, Hollywood refers to an area consisting of the City of West Hollywood and its vicinity that form part of the Greater Los Angeles metropolitan area.

  23. Text Analysis What is the text mainly about?(1) As the story reveals to us, there are three major characters — the mother, her father and her daughter. The mother felt sorry for her father because she witnessed her suffer and die from smoking. Her bitter and painful experiences with her father’s smoking habit have taught herself a good lesson.

  24. Text Analysis What is the text mainly about? (2) That’s why she feels deeply hurt to see her daughter smoking the same kind of cigarette that killed her grandfather. The mother never hopes that her daughter will follow in her grandfather’s footsteps, but hopes that her father’s fate will serve as a warning to her daughter.

  25. Text Analysis How is the text organized? (1) The author narrates to the reader the stories of her daughter and her father in first person, which makes the narration more vivid and convincing. The whole passage consists of three parts: the author’s worries about her daughter’s smoking; the author’s painful experiences with her father’s smoking.
