  1. Energy Cienna Ribblett

  2. Mechanical Energy • Kinetic Energy • The energy of motion • Ex. Riding a bike, frog leaping Leaping Frog

  3. Chemical Energy • Energy stored in chemical bonds- potential energy • Energy released when burned • Ex. Coal, oil, propane, food, matches, and batteries Coal

  4. Nuclear Energy • Energy stored within the nucleus of the atom- potential energy • Released by joining nuclei (fusion) or splitting nuclei (fission) • Ex. Sun (join), nuclear plant (split) Sun

  5. Electric Energy • Moving electric charges (electrons) produce electricity- kinetic energy • Ex. Runs computers, radios, and light bulbs

  6. Light (Electromagnetic) Energy • Motion of particles within atoms that make up matter • Moves in waves- Kinetic Energy • Ex. Microwaves, UV Radiation, visible light, gamma rays, x-rays, radio waves, and infrared Brain X-Ray

  7. Thermal Energy • The total energy of the particles in an object • Ex. Oven, body heat, and regular heat Body Heat

  8. Sound Energy • The energy of the vibration of molecules • Travels in Longitudinal Waves • Ex. The bass in music, and humming Sound Waves On Water

  9. Energy Conversion • Any form of energy can be converted into another form of energy

  10. Conversion #1 • Riding a bicycle • Changes: Chemical Energy Mechanical Energy

  11. Conversion #2 • Speakers • Changes: Electrical Energy Sound Energy

  12. Conversion #3 • The Sun • Changes: Nuclear Energy Thermal Energy

  13. Law of Conservation of Energy • The Law of Conservation of Energy states that energy cannot be created or destroyed, but only changed from one form into another.
