  3. OFSTED FRAMEWORK

  4. Education inspection framework: the consultation o New inspection judgements Overall effectiveness

  5. Quality of education The new quality of education judgement puts the real substance of education, the curriculum, at the heart of inspection. Inspectors will have a connected, educationally focused conversation, incorporating: • EY curriculum design, coverage, appropriateness and delivery • teaching (pedagogy) • assessment (formative and summative) • attainment and progress • knowledge and skills • readiness for the next stage of education.

  6. Separate judgements for ‘personal development’ and ‘behaviour and attitudes’ Personal development Personal development, welfare and behaviour Behaviour and attitudes

  7. What we are doing in response • Introduction of two new separate judgements: ‘personal development’ and ‘behaviour and attitudes’. • Amendments to ‘personal development’ to ensure that the importance of secure attachments, children’s emotional health, and relationships between babies and adults are captured. • Revising the grade descriptors to include an acknowledgement that when children struggle with regulating their behaviour adults take appropriate action to support them.

  8. Inspection methodology – early years

  9. Cultural capital • Cultural capital is the essential knowledge that children need to be educated citizens (school). • Cultural capital is the essential knowledge that children need to prepare them for future success (early years). • Some children arrive at an early years setting with different experiences from others, in their learning and play. • What the setting does, through its curriculum and interactions, potentially makes all the difference. • It is the role of the setting to ensure that children experience the awe and wonder of the world in which they live, through the seven areas of learning.

  20. 30 hours codes for Autumn 2019 • Advice re codes for autumn term is that parents should make their application via www.childcarechoices.gov.uk between 15th June and 31st July to be sure to get their code in time for the autumn term. • HMRC sometimes need more information from the parent to check whether they’re eligible, so parents should allow time for this, to ensure that a valid code is received well ahead of the termly deadline (31 August). • Renewals of existing codes - please remind parents of children on this list, or any who are flagged up on your dashboard in amber or red, that they need to renew in good time to ensure their eligibility continues in Autumn term. • Children moving into full time reception places in autumn term, in state funded or independent schools reception classes will not be eligible for 30 hours.

  21. 30 hours flowchart • See flowchart on our web page: • https://www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/care/early-years-and-childcare/childcare-providers/free-childcare-providers-information
