  2. Analysis of Table 2 • Risk groups: homosexual men, hemophiliacs, & intravenous drug users. • HIV-1 antibody status: Positive & Negative • Each individual is either: homozygous (+/+), heterozygous (+/32) or mutated homozygous (32/32)

  3. Homosexual groups: 0% had the 32/32 mutation in the HIV-1 positive status. 2%, 17%, 7% had the 32/32 mutation in the HIV-1 negative status. Hemophiliac groups: Both cohorts expressed 0% of the 32/32 mutation in the HIV-1 positive status. 4% of the homozygous mutation was expressed in the HIV-1 individuals. Continued Analysis Risk Groups

  4. What does this data tell us? • Having the homozygous mutation protected against HIV. • There is an association between 32/32 genotype with HIV-1 negative status. • CKR532 allele appears to confer a recessive phenotype, which is associated with HIV-1 resistance and antibody production.
