What Human Growth and Development IS • Learning appropriate vocabulary • Learning about the many changes during puberty • Learning to talk with your parents • Learning about healthy lifestyle choices • Learning about growing from a child to a teenager • Completely optional Wake County Public School System 4 Human Growth & Development

What Human Growth and DevelopmentIS NOT • It is not comprehensive Sex Ed. • No mention of Alternative Lifestyles • Birth Control will not be talked about • Sexual Intercourse is not discussed • It is not mandatory!!   6. Becoming Askable • Educate children that body parts are not dirty. • Think about what you want to say about your beliefs and attitudes. Then verbalize your feelings. • Use proper names for all body parts including genitals. • Emphasize respect for one’s self and one’s body.   7. Becoming Askable Continued • Talk to your child. Not at them. • Reassure your child that they are normal, especially during prepubertal and pubertal years. • Relax! Take your time and don’t be concerned if you do not have all the answers. If you do not know the answers, it is O.K. to say so.
