  3. What is a #betterposter? Featured in Forbes and NPR, invented by psychology PhD student Mike Morrisson, the #betterposter format is revolutionizing the way scientists are translating their findings at conferences. The poster design draws on psychological and marketing principles to: • Foster conversation • Easily identify critical takeaways • Be appealing and eye-catching which makes people more likely to stop and read more • Help posters stand out from the pack • Encourage presenters to be creative, think about how to translate their findings, and focus on what is important.

  5. Directions • The goal of this poster is to foster conversations and questions about your idea, not to overload the audience with information and data. • The middle panel is meant to catch the eye and draw people in – you can keep just a solid background color, add in graphics, or have the whole middle section be a graphic. • Once you draw the audience in, the left side panel delivers all essential information in plain language. Only include essential text. • The right-side panel is for any additional information. If they are interested in following up with you or seeing additional details, you can add the QR code to a website of your choosing.

  6. Next page is the template for the SCIBAR #betterposter – you can adapt this template for your poster. All SCIBAR posters must be designed using the #betterposter template. Note that you can modify this template to adapt to your own content and style but MUST RETAIN THE 40”w x 30”h format. You can use this link to generate a QR code: https://www.qr-code-generator.com/
