Chapter 3b. Keep Moving 2 The two players in front have missed the ball, they are now ahead of it. They must be careful here as the second yellow player is still riding down THE LINE so he has the play. If they stop in front of him he will crash into them.

  1. Chapter 3b • Keep Moving 2 The two players in front have missed the ball, they are now ahead of it. They must be careful here as the second yellow player is still riding down THE LINE so he has the play. If they stop in front of him he will crash into them. They should veer off, double back and join in behind again as back up in case yellow 2 misses it. TIP: The second yellow player should hit the ball to her RIGHT to take it past the others, that way they won’t be able to hook her.

  2. Chapter 3c • Keep Moving 3 Again here we see two players practically standing on the ball as the blue guy in the back charges down onto it. They must get out the way fast! Again we see how the red back near the scoreboards needs to go and get STICK SIDE of the guy charging down onto the ball. The red out front needs to double back and back up his teammates. * The Red is actually waiting for a long pass up to him, it’s good tactic but not at a beginner level as a ‘long’ shot isn’t likely.

  3. Chapter 4a • The Hook When one is riding STICK SIDE of a player the way to stop them hitting the ball is to HOOK them. The red player has reached out to hook the mallet of the blue player, who is trying to hit the ball. The red player knocks the others mallet out of the way, causing him to miss the ball. The Red guy is hooking a bit high, he practically has the guy’s hand. He should be hooking towards the bottom of the guy’s mallet.

Chapter 4b • Hooking 2 RULES ON HOOKING: • Do not hook high. • Do not hook anything but the mallet • Only hook if you are on the correct side Here the Yellow looks like he is going for the hook but he is reaching across behind the Blue horses legs, he risks hitting the horse’s legs. This is a fowl! He should get properly onto the stick side before he tries to hook the guy. Notice the second blue player waiting behind as back up.

  5. Chapter 4c • Hooking 3 The Red person is too far behind to be able to hook him. Push on Red person! He’s useless just toddling around following him.
