Major Public Health Reorganization in 2005: Embracing Comprehensive Disease Surveillance
In late 2005, significant restructuring occurred in public health, integrating all communicable disease surveillance alongside environmental health initiatives. HIV/STD prevention and care were reunited with surveillance efforts, incorporating hepatitis data for a more complete overview. This move aims to address frustrations with outdated databases like STD-MIS and HARS, advocating for a unified data system that provides an integrated view of client health. The reorganization has set the foundation for future improvements anticipated in 2008, although the transition presents challenges for surveillance staff.
