  1. Grab a sheet of paper from the basket. Write 3 complete sentences. When you’re done, look at them and try to figure out what every sentence has in common.

  2. Callan dances all day long. Emre woke up early yesterday. Mr. Deery is excited to eat. All sentences have a subject and a predicate. If they don’t, they’re not sentences.

  3. SUBJECTS AND PREDICATES SUBJECT- who or what the sentence is about. The subject is usually a noun or pronoun. The simple subject is who or what is doing the verb, without any description.

  4. The big, hungry, green alien grabbed a student from the back row. The bright copper coin sparkled on the dirty sidewalk.

  5. Yesterday after lunch, the students were complaining about the short recess. Bobby and his friends ran outside to play basketball.

  6. Predicate – the verb. It can be an action verb, a linking verb, or a verb phrase. The simple predicate is simply the verb or verb phrase. The simple predicate can be any of the verb types: Action- sneeze, bark, study Linking- am, is, are, was, were, be, been, being Phrase- was going, do like,

  11. We went to lunch with Amare and his friend today. Juan and Julian worked so hard on their project. A large number of swimmers competed in the race this year.

  12. The tired old man slowly walked in from the rain. The bathroom tiles are fuzzy with mold. Mr. Deery is mean.

  13. Jane and Melissa are the best players on the team. Mike jumped in the river and swam to the island.
