Tibet was led by the Dali Lama. Today it is a part of China and the Dali Lama is not allowed to enter Tibet. • 1959: Dalai Lama escaped to India with help of U.S. (CIA). • Buddhists in Tibet want independence with Dalai Lama back as leader.
