  3. Standards and Objectives*Students will practice questioning and connecting their prior knowledge to the book. Students will learn the history of Halloween.Students will create a Venn-Diagram to compare and contrast Halloween then and Halloween now. Students will then be using their diagram to write a short three paragraph paper. RLA.O.4.1.3 Use pre-reading strategies to comprehend text (e.g., activating prior knowledge, predictions, questioning)(http://wveis.k12.wv.us/Teach21/public/cso/popUp.cfm)NCSS: Time, Continuity, and Change.Studying the past makes it possible for us to understand the human story across time. The historical experiences of societies, peoples and nations reveal patterns of continuity and change. Continued…*Students will begin to identify major bones of the body and how they interact together as the skeletal system. *Students will research three interesting facts about the given word (femur, rib cage, tibia etc.) and write about what they’ve learned.Standards being taught and assessed:CCSS W.4.7Conduct short research projects that build knowledge through investigation of different aspects of a topic. Students will learn a song to review rounding and will learn how to round using real life situations. M.O.4.4.4 given real-world situations, count coins and bills and determine correct change.M.O.4.1.3 estimate solutions to problems including rounding, benchmarks, compatible numbers and evaluate the reasonableness of the solution, justify results.

  6. Assessments * Students will create a Venn-Diagram about Halloween then, versus Halloween now, and will use this diagram to write three paragraphs. The assessment will be based on their writing that the students hand in to me. *Students will be assessed based on “Bony Ben”.*The students Halloween worksheet will be assessed based on their individual participation. Because this is a review lesson, this will be an informal assessment.
