CSU Program for Education and Research in Biotechnology (CSUPERB) • CSUPERB defines biotechnology quite broadly • Welcomes and encourages applications from all related disciplines, including but not limited to: • Life sciences • Physical sciences • Math • Computer science • Clinical sciences • Agricultural science • Engineering • Business

CSUPERB organizes its own annual symposium • 25th Annual CSU Biotechnology Symposium is coming up • Thurs Jan 3-Sat Jan 5, 2013 • Anaheim Marriott • Students who present or not, pay $50 only, as registration fee (ie. All other costs are covered (accommodation, food) • Students who present also get funded $150 for travel

4. Further… • CSUPERB will support up to 5 students from each faculty-led group. • Abstract review criteria: • They should have original data • Should be readable and presented with clarity • Should use correct spelling and punctuation • 2500 characters in length (including space)

Don Eden Graduate Student Research Award • Application Deadline October 8, 2012  • Award Notification: At Symposium Jan 2013  • Maximum Award: $1750 • This award is designed to foster excellence in graduate student research throughout the CSU system in biotechnology-related research covering a broad range of topics in cellular, molecular, chemical and physical studies of the life sciences. It is named after Professor Don Eden (SFSU) who held his students, colleagues and himself to the highest standards of excellence in research. Glenn Nagel Undergraduate Research Award • Application Deadline October 8, 2012 • Award Notification: At Symposium  • Maximum Award: $1750 • This award is aimed at fostering excellence in undergraduate student research throughout the California State University system in biotechnology-related research covering a broad range of topics in cellular, molecular, and biochemical life sciences. Crellin Pauling Student Teaching Award • Application Deadline October 8, 2012  • Award Notification: At Symposium  • Maximum Award: $ 1750 • This award is designed to acknowledge outstanding student teaching achievement by a CSU student in the biotechnology educational arena encompassing the interface of chemistry, biology, engineering, and business.
