Our 5th Grade Band Program • The 5th grade band program consists of 6 elementary schools with approximately 30 students from each school. • Enrollment and interest has decline within the last 4 years. • The Administration would like to determine the sources of the decline. • Evaluating the following areas will determine the problem? • Effectiveness of demonstration concert • Effectiveness of instrument try-outs and recruitment • Revamping group-lessons • Demonstration of basic music skills prior to continuing in 6th grade band

Project Logic Model • Resources/Inputs • Parents, Administration, Community and School Boards • Activities • Lesson Groups, Various Recruitment Tools and Public Performances • Outputs • Performances, Basic Knowledge Skills and Technology with Recruitment • Outcomes (Short Term) • Increase band value, Relationships between schools, Improve basic skills and increase enthusiasm • Impacts (Long Term) • Communication from elementary to secondary, better musicians, enhance community/school support roles.

Purpose and Questions • The purpose of the evaluation is to decide the value and the effectiveness of the Batavia 5th grade band program. • These questions will be asked during the evaluation process: • 1. Are students meeting the expectations of the program? • 2. What are the student’s quarterly progress? • 3. Will I(student) continue to 6th grade band?

  8. Evaluation Plan Criteria and Audiences • Criteria Focus Groups: Are findings relevant if expectations are being met? Documentation Review: Lessons in line with state standards. Students showing progression. Pre/Post tests that show students growth. Are students practicing? Observations: Activities and procedures positive & effective for student’s progression. Questionnaires/Surveys: For both students and parents. Are students returning? Areas of improvements? Satisfied with the program? Audience: Administrators and School Board Members.

  11. Our Evaluation Group • Lisa Hatfield-7th Grade Band Director at Rotolo Middle School & part-time 5th Grade band instructor. Lisa is the implementer of the design. • Kelly Gale- Computer Teacher at Meridian Jr. High School. Kelly is the chart director of the team. • Luciana Goldstein-Librarian at Kaplan College. Luciana is your Reference and Resource specialist. • Julie Linden-Computer Teacher at Rollins Elementary School. Julie is the matrix/powerpoint designer.
