  1. What can we expect from the future generation of over 60s?

  2. What will a future over 60 look like? The future is uncertain but by looking at how the generations differ in the present, we can get an idea of what over 60s might look like in 30 - 40 years’ time. From the way they travel and how they consume entertainment, to their health and the values they hold dear, it’s quite clear that when the current generation of young adults grow up, they will behave and live rather differently than today’s older people. Let’s have a look at what a future over 60 might look like.

  3. Fashion

  4. Currently, the world sees trends and style re-emerge from history. As people grow older, they then look towards the trends they loved when they were younger. In 2050 will everyone be trying to dress like the 2020s again? • The smart mirror market is projected to reach $4 billion by 2025. This emerging technology is bound to play a role in the future of fashion. Culture could see smart mirrors utilised as a sales tool as well as in homes.

  5. Technology

  6. Experts predict that by 2030 there will be 27 million driverless cars in Europe alone. This will mean that suddenly ageing factors like poor eyesight and slower reaction time will be an issue when it comes to driving. • Wearable technology will not only open doors to future over 60s, but will go a long way to offering life saving diagnosis’ and alerts. There are already examples of the medical indicators on these devices saving lives.

  7. Entertainment

  8. Evidence can already be seen that social media is affecting loneliness positively, and when digital natives reach older age, the hope is that it will help alleviate it all together. • With more people than ever looking for their entertainment online, it’s likely there will continue to be a large shift in how people consume entertainment, and what they deem truly entertaining.

  9. Health

  10. When considering the exercise equipment people might have at their disposal in the future, the possibilities really are endless, with anti-gravity chambers and specially designed exercise suits being a possibility. • In the future, the hope is that the world becomes more accessible for those with mobility issues, and that mobility aids will start to exist more readily outside of the home.

  11. Values and Attitudes

  12. It can currently be seen that millennials are thought to be the most eco-conscious generation so far, with high-rises in reusable product popularity and veganism, which is likely to only continue in future years. • Housing is something that many young people struggle with, and instead of forgoing purchasing altogether, it’s likely that people will simply delay milestones like this in their life until they are financially able to undertake them safely.
