  1. Poster Girl Pitch By Hollie Potter

  2. Poster Girl • Whilst researching for a possible song, I came across a playlist called ‘Undiscovered Artists’ on Spotify. • I came across the RNB track ‘Poster Girl’ by Talia Goddess. • The song had 15,000 streams on Spotify and a YouTube following of 516 people, it’s also important to note that there has not been a music video produced for the track. • From the first time I heard this track I knew it could be something special and had the ability to facilitate our groups desired concepts/visuals.

  3. The meaning • The song itself explores the perspective of being a public figure in today’s society. It punctuates how the public eye can generate a persona for someone, that is in fact uncorrespondent to how they actually are as a human being. • This song illustrates the growth taken by Talia Goddess to remold herself into her own authentic identity, despite other peoples opinions and views. This is extremely significant in modern day culture as what the media sees “is only the surface level” (quoted by Goddess herself) to who someone truly is. • When researching the message behind this song, I became even more passionate about this song as it is extremely on brand with our group’s solo artist we are creating, as our artist is all abut being authentic and expressing their true identity.

  4. Narrative • My idea for this music video would follow the narrative of our LGBTQ+ artist obsessing over her latest crush, e.g., the 'poster girl’. The video will consist of several references towards this girl, either seen in posters, online sources, screens, projections, etc .. • As the concept of ‘dreams’ are mentioned multiple times, I envision showing her ‘fantasies’ through different set ups, creating a world where her and the poster girl are together, switching between reality and her visions. For example shadow projections of two women standing beside each other, with the use of colourful lighting and effects. • The video will be based on female empowerment and acceptance, therefore I want it to be prosecuted in a respectful fashion and clear to be celebrating the women of our century, including the LGBTQ+ community. • Another concept I would like to explore is the idea of having the ‘poster girl’ as a mannequin. I think this would really enhance the idea of how public figures within the media are stereotypically dehumanised and stripped away from their authenticity.

  5. The genre of the music video would be RNB/hip hop. The typical conventions you would tend to see in these genres are … • Sexualized women; specifically wearing clothes to feed into the male gaze. • Males dominating the scene. • Males topless, wearing 90’s inspired clothing (chains, baggy jeans) • Slow and elongated shots. • Dance sequences. • Sexual imagery between male and female. • Grey tones to add to the mysterious atmosphere being created. How I plan to break certain conventions • Depicting women as strong and powerful. • Using an only female cast. • Sharing the narrative of a LGBTQ+ artist. • Focusing in on women’s issues; being vulnerable shows strength. • Having the women dressed in a more masculine fashion. The Genre

  6. Visual Cues Visual Cues I aim for the video to be very performance based with creative set designs, costumes and makeup. A particular set up which I would love to create would be a plain white bed in the middle of a room with our artist gradually putting up photos of the poster girl, eventually her bedroom walls (even shots of the camera) will be covered. I would like to work with an electric colour palette, for example, blue and green, adding an almost futuristic feature to the overall look and as for the costumes I want each one to be abstract and in trend with the artist we are creating. Finally, in terms of makeup, I would love to incorporate our artist in unique and funky eye makeup looks such as adding gemstones or a graphic eyeliner.

  7. The Cast • In terms of the cast I am looking for two main characters, our artist and the ‘poster girl’. • I would like to stray away from stereotypes and instead, include a diverse cast. • For our solo artist I am looking for a female singer who has flare and confidence about them. As they are an embodiment of female empowerment, it is a necessity that they can dominate the screen with their infectious self love and charisma. • I already have my eye on a student here at Hurtwood House to play the role of our artist as I think she would suit the part and bring our project to life. A picture will be allocated to the right. • As for the ‘poster girl’, as mentioned before, I would love to explore with concept of the ‘poster girl’ being a mannequin. This would also lower the budget , therefore extending the quality of our project even further. • I want the mannequin to be extremely generic to demonstrate the stereotypes and pathetic beauty standards of women today. The use of a wig could be extremely effective here as it punctuates the overall idea of public figures being dehumanized.

  8. Influencers • My main influence would be from the artist Audrey Nuna, specifically her ‘comic sans’ music video. From watching her videos I grew hooked on her clean and sharp cinematic design. • I love the interesting angles she shoots from, for example the tilted angles from above and below, especially with the fish eye lens she uses in certain shots. • She also offers a cohesive colour palette, keeping to the theme of cold blue, dark green, silver, etc. throughout the entire video. With this she also touches on the ‘futuristic’ aesthetic that I would plan on bringing to light in our music video. • She is constantly pushing the conventions of fashion in this video, offering an abstract and fresh appeal to her persona and look.
