  3. Safety First! • In a severe medical emergency, seek treatment immediately. Proceed to the nearest emergency room and let them know that you are a state employee and the medical emergency is an “On The Job Injury”. • After any emergency room treatment you must follow-up the next business day with a network gatekeeper provider. • Non-life threatening injuries will be treated by a SEICTF network gatekeeper provider.

  4. Injury Incurred While Driving … • Seek treatment, if needed, immediately. • Notify your immediate supervisor. • Obtain a copy of the police report as soon as possible to be submitted to your supervisor. • A copy of the report must be faxed to SEICTF and to the ABC Personnel office.

  5. When injuries happen …

  6. If you are injured at work … • Report any injury immediately to your supervisor no matter how “minor” you may think the injury is! • Your supervisor will provide you with an injury packet. • If the injury is serious, don’t delay treatment. Go to the Emergency Room!

Exposure to blood or body fluids… • If you are exposed to blood, body fluid or other potentially infectious materials do the following: Clean the site immediately; If you still feel uncomfortable and want treatment, go to the nearest SEICTF network gatekeeper for immediate treatment; Complete the Blood/Body Fluid Exposure Report as soon as possible.

  11. Gatekeepers • Employees who are injured on the job receive medical care from an approved network health care provider (physician or hospital). SEICTF is responsible for payment to the medical care provider. The employee will not be charged for co-payments or deductibles. And, employees participating in the SEICTF program are not required to provide an ABC medical validation form in order to return to work.

  12. Election for Lost Time Benefits... • If your on-the-job injury results in you missing more than 3 days of work, your options for lost time benefits are: • For the first 3 days you should: • Use available annual/sick leave, or • Take unpaid days. • After 3 days you should: • Take SEICTF benefit of two-thirds pay with no deductions, or • Take available annual/sick leave.

Private Healthcare Providers • Injured employees may choose not to participate in the SEICTF program and may choose to be treated by their own private healthcare provider. • Employee will be required to pay all co-pays and deductibles. • Employee will not be allowed to return to work until such time that the private healthcare provider validates on an ABC medical validation form that the employee can perform all essential functions of the job.

Summary • Report any injury to your supervisor immediately. • The supervisor will give you the necessary packet and forms. • In the case of emergencies, seek medical attention immediately. • Complete the Authorization for Initial Treatment and Pharmacy, The First Report of Injury and the Accident Report-Employee Statement.

Summary • If you do not wish to seek medical treatment, indicate this on the First Report of Injury form under section 17. • However, if your supervisor deems your injury serious enough he/she may require you to seek treatment. • If you do not wish to see an authorized gatekeeper and do not wish to receive SEICTF benefits indicate this on section 17 of the First Report of Injury.

  16. Who’s responsible? • It is your responsibility to make sure the necessary forms are completed and returned to your supervisor. • Your supervisor will be responsible for communicating with SEICTF and the ABC Personnel Office and faxing all necessary forms.

  17. Who is responsible? In order to receive the benefits provided through SEICTF in the event that you are injured on the job, you and your supervisor MUST follow the procedures as outlined in this presentation. Failure to follow these procedures may jeopardize your benefits and may lead to disciplinary action for you and your supervisor. State Employee Insurance Compensation Trust Fund
