  1. OEDIBUS Optoelectronic Eye-up floating DIsplay BUS RTD of an advanced compact information display integrating novel electro-optical components for the projection of images in front of the user, superimposed on a background scene of variable brightness. The new display concept will be validated for automotive night vision. Start date: September 1st 2000 Duration: 3 years Partnership: Centro Ricerche Fiat (IT) - coordinator Electrooptics Industries (IL) LC-Tec (SW) Magneti Marelli (IT) Weizmann Institute (IL)

  2. OEDIBUS: automotive HUD Existing solutions GM/Delphi Jaguar/Pilkington Daimler-Crysler Bosch Visteon/Pilkington Current limitations - high cost of the optics - complex optical alignment - bulkiness - low contrast against high intensity background The proposed solution will feature a foldable flat and thin screen integrating - a miniature display with high intensity backlight - a compact light-guiding and image projection bus of see-through characteristic, based on HOEs - a variable transmittance optics, based on GH-LC Advantages - Low cost - Large exit pupil - Simplified optical alignment - High contrast in high brightness background - 1:1 magnification & overlap

  3. OEDIBUS Technical objectives - Investigation of optical light guide modules - Replication of grating structures on large scale - Investigation of variable transmittance screens - System integration - Automotive compliance testing - Onboard integration with night vision system - Ergonomic assessment
