  2. Pathos Pathos is a sympathetic feeling of pity or compassion evoked by an artistic work.

  3. Examples of Pathos • ASPCA commercials show all the pictures of the abused animals to try to get you to donate. • AT&T texting and driving commercials show people who have lost loved ones, persuading you not to text and drive.

  4. Pedantic Pedantic is an adjective that describes words, phrases, or general tone that is overly scholarly, academic, or bookish.

  5. Examples of Pedantic Mr.Jackson’s message was so esoteric that the capitulation from his argument was not obvious.

  6. Personification Personification is a figure of speech in which ideas or objects are described as having human qualities or personalities.

  7. Examples of Personification The stars danced playfully in the moonlit sky. The run down house appeared depressed. Characters from Finding Nemo. The M&M characters.

  8. Point of View • In literature, the perspective from which a story is told. • There are 4 types of POV: • First Person Narrator • Third Person Narrator • Third Person Omniscient • Third Person Limited Omniscient

  9. Examples I thought I saw a shadow move high up on the slope, but when I looked again it was gone. Still, I shuddered as I felt a silent threat pass over me like a cloud over the sun (First Person). The riders on the coaster wait nervously. Mr. Jackson, on the first row, worries that he should not have eaten a chili dog, large fries, and super-size soda before getting on this ride (Third Person).
