  2. UnitSummary • This unit will introduce students to elements of the Spanish culture, such as the celebration of the Quinceañera. • Students will analyze and develop comparison skills from their culture to the Hispanic culture.

  3. Unit Summary continued • While practicing their Spanish writing skills, students will exchange opinions concerning their traditional rite of passage with e-pals from other Hispanic countries.

  4. Objectives • The students will analyze and interpret the rites of passage Hispanic girls must undertake in order to reach womanhood. • Students will also be able to distinguish similarities & differences between aspects of their own culture and that of the Hispanic culture.

  5. Essential Question What does it mean to be a woman?

  6. Unit Question What is the significance of the transition from childhood to womanhood in the Spanish culture?

  7. Content Question Who are the eligible candidates that might hold the honor of a Quinceañera?

  8. Assessment:Gauging Student Needs • Using the K-W-H-L Chart as a guideline, I will be able to assess my students’ knowledge about the topic and from there I will be able to create my lesson that will meet their needs.

Targeted Content Standards & Benchmarks • Communication -Communicate in Languages other than English • Standard 1.1: Students engage in conversations, provide and obtain information, express feelings and emotions, and exchange opinions. • Cultures - Gain Knowledge & Understanding of Other Cultures • Standard 2.1: Students demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between the practices and perspectives of the culture studied. • Comparison– Develop Insight into the Nature of Language & Culture • Standard 4.2: Students demonstrate understanding of the concept of culture through comparisons of the cultures studied and their own.
