Students are encouraged to go beyond the classroom, to utilize a much larger resource base, and to both extend and apply their knowledge as members of our community. Students will be better prepared with the communication and presentation skills necessary for success in our society while expanding their opportunities after high school with advancement in technology. Students will also become more self-directed in their learning and experience the freedom to learn outside the traditional classroom. Overall, our students will become articulate critical thinkers, thoughtfully focused citizens, academically competitive learners, and reflective problem solvers.

  24. Paint Valley High School Key Practices # 7 Guidance We have improved and expanded our guidance program through the advisor/advisee program.

  25. C.A.T. Purpose • Provide academic monitoring and support • Provide academic guidance • Build relationships • Provide positive Parental Involvement • To enhance career awareness • Promote student growth and involvement With school programs and activities

  26. C.A.T. Activities • 4-year plans • Extra help (tutoring) • Silent sustained reading • Individual career plan • Proficiency intervention • Interim reports/grade cards • College rep. Visits • Club meetings • Door decorating (homecoming)

  27. C.A.T. Involving All Parents • It’s really quite simple, there’s no magic to it. If you REQUIRE parents to partner with you, they will. How could anyone argue with the importance of meeting about their child at least once yearly?

  28. C.A.T. The Bottom Line • When a 4-year plan is not signed by a parent, the student is not scheduled for classes the upcoming year. They are told they will not be scheduled until a parent comes in for a conference. When schedule verification sheets are handed to the other students, this is “proof” that we mean business.

  29. C.A.T. Benefits • Positive parental involvement • Teacher involvement in guidance • Student/Teacher contact on daily basis • Flexibility for student (tutoring/S.H./Meetings) • Guidance on daily basis • Paperwork - passing out report cards/interim report, scholarships, surveys, etc.
