  2. INTRODUCTION • The Christian Church has its own seasons. These include: • Advent • Christmas • Epiphany • Easter • Pentecost, etc • One of the most important seasons is Easter. About 40 days prior to Easter is called LENT.

  3. THE ORIGINAL PURPOSE OF LENT • Lent was originally used to prepare catechumen (candidates for baptism) for the day.

  4. LATER • Lent, which begins on Ash Wednesday, became an important period of fasting for the Christian church. The significance of the 40 day fast is to go with the 40 day fast of Jesus Christ. The Lent (especially, the fast is throughout the week except Sundays.

  5. WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF LENT? • It is a form of retreat for all Christians. It is a period of: • Reflection • Repentance • Reconciliation • Restitution • Rededication • Prayer & Fasting • Charity

  6. SHOULD WE GET INVOLVED? • It is important for us to keep this tradition because of the following important Bible scriptures: • 2 Cor. 13: 5 • Ezek. 33: 11 • Isaiah 1: 18 • 1John 1:8-9 • James 4: 4-10 • Luke 2: 18-24
