Tour basics Getting there • We will depart from The Oval, Bebington by coach and then fly from Luton (EZY2415) at 7.25am on 16/2/18 and will arrive in Naples at 11.10am local time • Please drop your child off at The Oval no later than 11.45pm on Thursday 15/2/18 Returning home • We will leave Naples at 7.40pm on 19/2/16 (EZY2416) and arrive in Luton at 9.35pm • Please collect your child at The Oval at approximately 2.30am on Tuesday 20/2/18 – sorry!

  5. Tour basics Our accommodation • All students are grouped in tens – this is for registration purposes. This member of staff will take care of your passport. Groups on next slide. • We will stay at Hotel Ascot in Sorrento for 3 nights. • This accommodation is on a half board basis. • Rooming …. TBC • Rooms are en-suite, have a safe and hairdryer • The hotel has a restaurant on site and free wifi in the lobby

  6. Tour basics Meal arrangements • Continental breakfasts and evening meals will be served at the hotel. Food is basic Italian i.e. pasta with tomato or carbonara sauce, pizza, chips. Vegetarians/allergies will be catered for. There are small shops and cafes near to the hotel that sell snacks and drinks • Pupils will have to buy their lunch but snack outlets are plentiful and cheap • We have arranged for a pizza evening at a local restaurant where the pupils will have the opportunity of making their own pizzas!

Tour basics Travel tips – money • The currency in Italy is the Euro • We recommend that students take no more than £50 in euros with them on the visit in cash • Pupils are responsible for their own money and may use the safe in their rooms • Each family must provide a refundable behaviour deposit of €15

  8. Tour basics • Travel tips – packing • The weather in Sorrento at this time of year is mild – 13-15°C. We will be climbing Vesuvius too. As such, I recommend that students pack the following essential items for their tour: • Waterproof jacket • Sturdy boots/trainers • Warm clothing e.g. fleece, hat, scarf • Luggage – standard hand baggage plus one handbag • One piece of hold luggage not exceeding 20kg • NO LIQUIDS BEFORE DUTY FREE • MAKE UP/PERFUME IN HOLD LUGGAGE

  10. Why are we going? • To learn about active volcanoes • To see a tourist island • To enrich your children’s knowledge of Geography • To provide your children with an unforgettable experience

  12. What will we see & do? Day 1 Arrive, hotel acclimatisation; Evening meal then bowling Day 2 Vesuvius Walk up to the active crater. Surprisingly, there are souvenir stalls here! Pompeii A guided tour of the famous Roman ruins Pizza making in the evening Day 3 Island of Capri Hydrofoil ferry to island – if you suffer from travel sickness bring medication Minibus journey to Anacapri mountain; Study of tourism Day 4 Walking tour of Sorrento town Please bring a small field note book so as to record what you see and do. The owner of the best book will receive a prize.

  13. Bay of Naples field trip February 2018 Each day you will attempt two task, the results of which will be recorded in your field notebook. Saturday morning Describe and explain in detail the appearance of Mount Vesuvius and the surrounding landscape. Saturday afternoon Describe the appearance of the ancient town of Pompeii. Sunday morning Describe and explain the reasons why Capri is such a popular tourist destination. Sunday afternoon Describe and explain the land use of the town of Capri and its surrounding area. Monday morning Describe the layout and land use of the town of Sorrento. What will we see & do?

Housekeeping… • Phones and other valuables are taken at your own risk. • Check mobile tariff – ‘roam like at home.’ If unsure, turn data roaming off. • Insurance – the school and Travelbound provide this. Zurich Municipal- KSC-242093-8163 • Rooming – we will have a student meeting when I get the details. When we know this, please try to sort out amongst yourselves and let me know asap. It may be necessary for me to wade in! • Behaviour…no alcohol, perfect behaviour expected We’re on our way!
