  1. The Slinky, a popular children’s toy, was invented in 1943. Velcro was invented in 1948 and became a popular fastener. Silly putty was invented in 1943 originally to be a replacement for rubber, but eventually becomes a popular toy. The first atomic bomb was detonated on July 16, 1945 in a test in Alamogordo, NM. Inventions of the 1940's The Jeep began being produced in 1941 and played an important role in the Allied victory in WWII. The microwave oven was invented, using WWII radar technology, and began being sold in 1947. The V-2, the first ballistic missile was launched by the Germans in a WWII attack against Paris, France, in 1944. The Frisbee was invented in 1948 and has become a popular toy. The ENIAC, the first general-purpose electronic computer was completed in 1946. The first jet aircraft, the CaproniCampini N.1, first flew in 1941.
