  16. CAD What does it mean? Computer Aided Design

  17. Computer Aided Design • What is it? • Who uses it? • Why they use it?

  18. What is it? CAD is often referred to as computer aided drawing, computer aided design, computer aided drafting or computer assisted design. CAD software is used by architects, engineers, drafters, artists, and others to create precision drawings or technical illustrations. CAD software can be used to create two-dimensional (2D) drawings or three-dimensional (3D) models.

  19. Who uses it? Why they use it? CAD is often used by: Architects Engineers Cartographer Product designer design structures such as homes, skyscrapers, shopping malls and government offices design machines and manufacturing methods, and they specialize in such subjects as aerospace, electricity, mechanics or computer hardware Design maps – 2D and 3D (google maps, NAV man) Use CAD to design prototypes of there product for digital proposals. Also print in 3D to make a prototype

  20. Why they use it? • Communicating a message • Drawing is a form of communication • 3 types of communication • Verbal • Non verbal • Written

  28. Draw the base • Concrete layer needs to be 10,000mm x 10,000mm x 100mm • Draw a rectangle (10000,10000) • Use the push/pull tool to extrude (100) • Select the object you have drawn using the arrow tool, right click and make a component • Name it concrete slab
